Creative Fragrance Manager / Fragrance Evaluator

Role Overview

This position plays a pivotal role within the fragrance development function, requiring a balance of creative sensibility, strategic thinking, and technical knowledge. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Perfumers, internal stakeholders, and clients to translate market insights and brand objectives into well-defined olfactive directions. Responsibilities span the full development lifecycle — from brief interpretation and daily fragrance evaluation to client presentations and regulatory compliance — making this a highly cross-functional role that demands both precision and creative acuity.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Olfactive Strategy & Perfumer Collaboration
  • Work closely with Perfumers throughout the full development process — from initial concept through to final formulation — providing expert olfactive guidance at each stage.
  • Interpret client briefs, marketing concepts, and brand identities, translating them into clear creative directions that inspire and guide perfumer teams.
  • Review and evaluate fragrance submissions on a daily basis, delivering structured, objective feedback to support formula refinement.
  1. Consumer Insights & Trend Intelligence
  • Monitor market data, cultural shifts, and consumer behavior to uncover emerging opportunities and drive proactive fragrance innovation.
  • Identify and forecast olfactive and product trends across key categories including Fine Fragrance, Fabric Care, Personal Care, and Home Care — with a focus on local and regional relevance.
  • Apply sensory evaluation methods and market intelligence to ensure fragrance selections are both commercially viable and consumer-driven.
  1. Project Management & Collection Development
  • Oversee the end-to-end fragrance development lifecycle, managing timelines, deliverables, and budget adherence across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Curate and refine fragrance submissions to best meet client briefs and business objectives.
  • Maintain and actively develop an internal fragrance library with fresh, strategically selected ideas to support fast-turnaround requests.
  1. Technical Assessment & Compliance
  • Evaluate fragrance performance across a range of consumer product bases, assessing stability, diffusion, and olfactive consistency over time.
  • Partner with R&D and technical teams to resolve formulation challenges, ensuring all fragrances meet safety, cost, and regulatory requirements (including IFRA standards).
  • Adapt and re-modify existing formulas in response to regulatory updates, cost targets, or supply chain changes — without compromising the intended olfactive profile.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement & Client Presentations
  • Serve as the key connector between Laboratory, Sales, Marketing, and Consumer Insights teams, ensuring alignment across functions.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to develop compelling fragrance narratives and go-to-market strategies.
  • Lead and contribute to client presentations with confidence, clearly communicating olfactive rationale, creative inspiration, and technical benefits to support business development.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Fragrance Evaluation, Fragrance Applications, or FMCG/Cosmetic R&D — with a focus on scent preferred.
  • Formal olfactive training from a recognized institution (e.g., ISIPCA, Grasse Institute of Perfumery) or an internal academy at a leading fragrance house is highly advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of industry standards such as IFRA; a genuine eagerness to develop commercial acumen within the fragrance industry is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex olfactive concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with a customer-oriented mindset.
  • Analytical thinker with clarity of thought and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Positive, proactive attitude with a strong sense of team spirit and professional integrity.
